POP & Show DANCE - JUNIOR

Class: Mondays 5-5:55pm, beginning 8/16
Performance: End of session
Ages: 4-6 year olds

Does your little one enjoy dancing to the newest tunes? This class will build on the already natural talent of your child while also focusing on beat, confidence, and basic steps. From Broadway to Hip-Hop to Pom to Flag, these dances will keep you moving.

POP & Show DANCE - beginner

CLUB

While playing out particular scenes, LARP participants have an opportunity to develop skills and universal competencies, such as empathy, persuasion, creative problem solving, decision-making, or teamwork. We will explore different scenarios, both realistic and fictional, while building characters and supporting character choices. And they get to run around with foam swords for an hour to burn off steam!

Want to talk like Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast? How about Sebastian from The Little Mermaid? What if you sounded like you walked right out of the musical Oklahoma?

It is all possible -- and more! -- once you learn how to isolate the different sounds of the dialect. In this class, we will explore a number of dialects (selected by the class) and learn how to break them down and sound them out. We will work on monologues and scenes using different accents in preparation for a final performance.

Improvisational Comedy is the art form popularized by “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and The Second City in Chicago. More recently, its influence is seen on prime-time sitcoms and commercials.

This course is designed for students with previous acting and/or school experience. The focus of this course will be scene work and Improv Games. The students will demonstrate understanding of those techniques through performance.

This course is designed for students with previous acting experience. The focus of this course will be games, scene work, music, and long form. The students will demonstrate understanding of those techniques through performance.

This class is designed for students who have previous acting experience. The main focus of this class will be a dramatic showcase in class at the end of the session made up of individual scenes.

The student will focus on the mastery of key elements of interpreting a text including: character, blocking, voice and diction, stage environment, and theatre history, and then effectively communicating all of its elements to the audience. Students will continue the study of scene and character in order to hone his/her performance skills.

Tired of the same old thing? Want to try something different? Do you watch shows like “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and think, “I can do that!” Well you can, with a little hint on how the experts do it.

This course is designed to teach the rules and techniques of improvisation, made popular by The Second City in Chicago and more recently its influence is seen on prime-time sitcoms and commercials. They say laughter is the best medicine - well, you’re certain to get a full dose every class. Hope to see you there! Doctor’s orders. (Teacher is not a licensed therapist, just a licensed thespian.)

Did you know Prop Masters are actually Magicians?? It’s true! In this class, you will design and create small props for Black Box’s next Jr production. Learn the secrets of making props safe for the stage without losing that magic sparkle! Design and construct props that create optical illusions and tricks. Then you can look forward to seeing your very own creations in the next Black Box production!

This class allows students to work on vocal pieces in preparation for a performance. Students will perform their pieces in front of the instructor and the class to gain valuable feedback. When performing, students will learn confidence and technique, and while being audience members, students will learn critical thinking and coaching experience. This class is a great opportunity to prepare pieces for talent shows, auditions, and private performances!

Punch, kick, tackle, slap - get ready to get physical… or at least make it look that way!

In this class, students will learn how to safely execute fight/combat moves for the stage. We will go over techniques regarding the angles and sounds needed to make a fight seem real, while covering physical combat and combat with equipment.

Acceptance into this class is based on teacher approval.

“Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears!” This class is not your standard English class!

In this class, we will focus on Shakespeare in performance. Learn techniques to convey the meanings of the well-known bard, use iambic pentameter to your advantage, and actually understand what you’re saying. We will work towards a performance of scenes for our final class.

circus spectacular

Have you ever wanted to be encouraged to be a clown in the classroom? Now is your chance! Join Black Box and be part of our class of clowns!

In this session, we will be producing our very first CIRCUS SPECTACULAR! That’s right... we will be presenting true circus acts such as juggling, lyra (aerial hoop), slackrope, unicycle, and more! And, of course, there will be CLOWNS! Students will present act ideas and acts will be chosen based on the performer(s) ability to safely present the act.

We will also need help in areas other than performance so, if you have a child that is still trying to find their “spot” in a show, this is a great place to start. The Circus Spectacular will take place on October 3. More information on times and location will be given at a later date.
