Audition Tips

Waiting for the cast list to go up can be difficult as an actor, but putting it together is just as hard. Beyond talent, there are SO many factors that go into casting a show. Every time the casting panel is doing its best to put together a cast that will work well together to create the best show possible.

Private Lessons

Private lessons at Black Box give your child the opportunity to hone their skills in a one-on-one, personalized setting customized to their skill level. Private lessons are available for singing, acting, audition prep, ukulele, dance, movement, tumbling, and sewing.

Bozos

The Black Box Bozos are the largest Jr. Joey clown group in the United States — and they’re located right here in Lebanon, IN! The Bozos spend class time learning and practicing circus skills such as juggling, unicycle/cycocycle, slackline, tumbling, lyra, comedy routines, and more. They are heavily involved in community outreach, and you can frequently find them performing at public events in town.

The Conservatory at Black Box

The Conservatory at Black Box is a program geared towards high school students who are looking for a more professional experience and/or have a desire to take their skills to the next level. The Conservatory program offers numerous classes and performances every year that often include a winter show and a summer play.

Spring Session

Black Box offers courses in the spring that include Improv for a variety of ages and Advanced Acting. The instruction time is 5 weeks beginning after spring breaks in April. Registration opens in mid February.

Spring Musical

The spring musical is a fully staged musical theatre performance for students PreK-8th grade. Over 100 students work together from February to June in auditioned roles, movement, chorus, and tech to create a full-scale production. What makes the Black Box unique is the process-oriented approach. Our casting and rehearsal process focuses on the child’s development and needs not only as a performer, but as an individual. The purpose is to remind students that we are all special and significant in this world, and the spring musical process is designed to see collaboration, poise, and togetherness thrive ending in four performances in which the students and families can be proud to have been a part. Registration opens in early December every year and will fill up quickly.

Summer Session

Summer Camps at Black Box are the perfect way to get your kids out of the house — and for them to grow in community while learning new skills and perfecting the old! Fan favorites include Making Movie Memories, Circus Camp, Theatre Camps, Puppet Camp, Parade Prep, and LARP Club. Registration opens mid February.

Fall Session

Black Box offers a diverse range of learning opportunities in the fall including dialect, dance and movement, make-up, set/prop design, acting, improv, and more! We will meet together for 8 weeks starting in mid August. Registration opens in early June.

Fall Show

For the fall show, guided by the Broadway Kids Series through MTI, the Black Box has added a scaled-down version of their spring musical focused on the early elementary-aged students. Students work together for 8 weeks in featured roles and chorus to create a lighter version of the large spring show. With lights, music, dance, costumes, and make-up, the students shine on stage. This focused production allows younger students a larger spotlight while still focusing on the child’s development and needs not only as a performer, but as an individual. No matter the age, all are still special and significant and the fall musical process is designed to see confidence and camaraderie flourish ending in two performances for family and friends. Registration opens in early June.

Winter Session

Winter time at Black Box offers educational options focused on preparing for performance, ranging from caroling to crafts to Triple Talent Treat! Our time with your student will run 4 weeks (excluding Thanksgiving week), starting at the beginning of November and ending with a holiday performance at Christmas on the Square in Lebanon and also at a local nursing home. Registration opens in late September.

Winter Shows

Our Winter show is a smaller-scale production for younger students. As the rehearsal period for this show is limited, certain parameters may be established to determine eligibility (i.e. requiring previous classes, adjusting age group, etc.), and cuts will generally be made after auditions. This is a wonderful opportunity for students looking for a more intimate learning and performance experience. Registration opens at the end of August.
